Ranking methodology
Weeks are aligned by games completed: “After W4” is the poll released after the fourth week of the season. The AP preseason poll is shown separately. Exact publication dates appear when you select a week and in the table.
The CFP committee begins ranking teams in late October or early November and stops on Selection Sunday. “Not released” is different from “unranked.” Its final ranking appears at “Selection,” while the AP’s post-bowl ranking appears at “Final AP.” No CFP ranking is carried forward into January.
The 2024 and 2025 seasons are complete. The 2026 series includes the preseason AP poll and Weeks 1–3, through September 20, 2026. Later weeks are not plotted. The first 2026 CFP ranking is scheduled for November 3.
